A Sanctuary for Authentic Indian Art

KUTEERR is a Sanskrit word which means HOME — and that is precisely what we have built: a home for India's most precious, most endangered art forms.

Welcome to Kuteerr — a sanctuary for authentic Indian art, embodying the essence of "home" through the preservation and revival of centuries-old traditions. The name Kuteerr, derived from the Sanskrit word for "home," represents our commitment to fostering a space where timeless craftsmanship meets contemporary luxury.

We specialize in reviving exceptional, yet endangered, Indian art forms such as Marori Khulai, Miniature Tarkashi, and Repoussé. These crafts, deeply rooted in Indian history, have been passed down through generations, originating from the royal courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The Arts We Revive

Our Art Forms

Marori &
Repoussé

A centuries-old engraving tradition born in royal armouries. Artisans chisel floral motifs and geometric patterns into silver, gold, and brass transforming metal surfaces into extraordinary works of art, plated with lasting brilliance.

Today, this intricate technique is employed by our artisans to create stunning jewellery, utensils, and decorative pieces. Detailed etching of floral motifs, geometric patterns, and nature-inspired designs using specialist chisels and hammers. Each piece is then plated with silver, gold, or nickel for lasting brilliance.

  • Hand-chisel etching of floral and geometric motifs
  • Applied to silver, gold, and brass surfaces
  • Final plating in silver, gold, or nickel
  • Creates jewellery, utensils, and decorative art

Miniature
Tarkashi

Tarkashi is an age-old craft that involves inlaying thin, flattened wires of brass, copper, or silver into wood to form detailed geometric and floral patterns. The word "Tarkashi" itself derives from Persian, meaning "to draw a thread" — a beautiful metaphor for this painstaking art.

Prevalent in Rajasthan, this technique is a true testament to the ingenuity of Indian artisans, producing pieces that resonate with cultural heritage and timeless beauty. Each wire is individually placed, burnished, and polished until the wood and metal become one seamless surface.

  • Thin wires of brass, copper, or silver inlaid into wood
  • Intricate geometric and floral patterns, each unique
  • Prevalent in Rajasthan — heritage of royal interiors
  • Boxes, trays, panels, furniture — objects of heirloom quality
