KUTEERR is a Sanskrit word which means
Welcome to Kuteerr, where we are a sanctuary for authentic Indian art, embodying the essence of “home” through the preservation and revival of centuries-old traditions. The name Kuteerr, derived from the Sanskrit word for “home,” represents our commitment to fostering a space where timeless craftsmanship meets contemporary luxury.
At Kuteerr, we specialize in reviving two exceptional, yet endangered, Indian art forms: Marori Khulai and Miniature Tarkashi. These crafts, deeply rooted in Indian history, have been passed down through generations, originating from the royal courts of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Marori Khulai, a traditional centuries old engraving art, originally used to embellish weaponry and armor. Today, this intricate technique is employed by artisans to create stunning jewelry, utensils, and decorative pieces, transforming metal surfaces—silver, gold, and brass—into extraordinary works of art. The meticulous craftsmanship involves detailed etching of floral motifs, geometric patterns, and nature-inspired designs using specialized tools like chisels and hammers. The final pieces are often plated with silver, gold, or nickel to give them a lasting brilliance.
On the other hand, Tarkashi is an age-old craft that involves inlaying thin, flattened wires of brass, copper, or silver into wood to form detailed geometric and floral patterns. This technique, prevalent in Rajasthan, is a true testament to the ingenuity of Indian artisans, producing pieces that resonate with cultural heritage and timeless beauty.
